Description
Viagra (generic name sildenafil) is a commonly used treatment for erectile dysfunction. Warnings
Viagra should not be taken if you are using nitrate-based medications, or any other anti-impotence medication. Taking nitrate medication with Viagra may result in a decrease in blood pressure, with the possiblity of fainting, stroke, or heart attacks. Inform your doctor of any heart, liver, or kidney ailments, blood cell disorders, or blood pressure problems you might have before taking Viagra. Viagra should also be avoided if you have been told to avoid sexual intercourse for health reasons, or a physical deformity of the penis.
Viagra is taken on an as-needed basis, usually 30 minutes to one hour before engaging in sexual activity. However, it may be taken up to 4 hours prior to sexual intercourse. To avoid side effects, this medication should only be taken once per day.
Viagra is used as needed, so there is no dosing schedule. In the event of a possible overdose, contact the local emergency room or poison control center.
