Description
Soma (generic name carisoprodol) is a commonly used muscle relaxant. It works by blocking pain sensations sent from the nerves to the brain. In general, it is used in conjunction with physical therapy and rest to treat painful musculoskeletal conditions and various injuries.
Side Effects
Soma has been known to cause allergic reactions of varying severity. Symptoms of an allergic reaction to the drug include hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling. Temporary paralysis, extreme weakness, a lack of coordination, seizures, agitation, and light-headed sensations are also known side effects of Soma use.
Warnings
This medication should not be taken if you have an allergy to carisoprodol or meprobramate. Inform your doctor if you have, or have had, epilepsy, liver disease, or kidney disease before taking the medication. These conditions may require an adjustment to the recommended dose. Note that this medication may be habit-forming and should only be used by the person it was prescribed for. You may experience withdrawal symptoms after taking Soma for several days. This medication should not be given to a child below the age of 12.
This medication should only be taken as prescribed by your doctor. Taking it in larger amounts may result in harmful side effects. Using Soma for longer than the recommended period may result in habit formation. Each dose should be taken with a full glass of water.
In the event of a missed dose, take the medication as soon as remembered. This should be followed unles it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, in which case, wait until the prescribed time. Do not double-up on the medication if one dose is missed. Seek emergency medical attention in the event of an overdose.
