Description
Levitra (generic name vardenafil) is a common alternative to Viagra as a pharmaceutical treatment for erectile dysfunction or impotence. It has mild muscle relaxant properties and can increase the flow of blood to certain areas of the body.
Side Effects
Levitra has been associated with sudden vision loss as a side effect. Emergency helps is recommended if this occurs. Other known side effects include pain or numbness during sexual activity, tingling sensations in the chest or arms, swelling of hands or feet, and fainting spells.
Warnings
Levitra should not be taken with alcohol, which can increase the chances and intensity of side effects. Grapefruit and grapferuit juice has been known to interact negatively with Levitra. Consult your doctor about this before taking the medication. Other anti-impotence medications can also interfere with the functioning of Levitra, so they must not be used unless under doctor's supervision.
Levitra should not be taken with nitrate-based medications, such as nitroglycerin, isosorbide mononitrate, and isosorbide dinitrate. Nitrate medication may cause dangerous decreases in blood pressure, potentially leading to fainting, stroke, or heart attacks. Inform your doctor if you have any specific allergies to certain medication, or if you have a history of heart and respiratory ailments.
Taking Levitra in larger doses or more than once within a 24-hour period may cause harmful side effects. Doses can be taken with or without food, but with a full glass of water. For best effects, Levitra should be taken 60 minutes before engaging in sexual activity. In the event of an overdose, contact the local emergency room.
